Reading Group

January 31, 2011

The votes are in – it was a tie between ‘Madness’ and Gibbon’s Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. We’ll be doing ‘Madness’ this term and Decline and Fall in the Spring.

The first session of this semester will be Joanna Baillie’s De Monfort, and her Introductory Discourse (time permitting). Both texts can be found on ECCO in the 1799 edition of Baillie’s A series of plays: in which it is attempted to delineate the stronger passions of the mind. Each passion being the subject of a tragedy and a comedy. Relevant extracts will also be provided in session.

Date: Wednesday 2nd February

Time: 5.15pm

Location: Arts, 3.15
